Dweezil Zappa

Iconoclastic, irreverent, sometimes cynical, always mischievous, never dull, Dweezil Zappa proclaims the End of the Rock Guitar Era in a fascinating interview/course with VideoGuitarLessons.com's Marc Seal.  Zappa finally did admit that perhaps through a combination of high technical proficiency and devotion to excellence in songwriting craft, an aspiring young artist could hope to make a mark and find an audience.

Then Zappa opened up the vault and shared with VideoGuitarLessons.com a preview of the unmixed tracks of his life's work, an extended original composition titled, "What The Hell Was I Thinking." The 74-minute piece features most of the greatest guitarists of all time (Eric Johnson, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Brian May, Michael Hedges, Albert Lee, Brian Setzer, Steve Vai, and Warren DiMartini, to name just a few). The piece blends guitar solos over an ever-changing sonic landscape composed and performed by Dweezil.

Zappa also broke out his infamous guitar collection for our cameras' inspection. These included several of his Dad's very advanced instruments from stage and studio, as well as other guitars that were gifts from luminaries like Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai. The jewel in the crown is a Jimi Hendrix Strat, burned onstage at the Miami Pop Festival by the Voodoo Child himself, then presented as a gift to Frank Zappa who played on the bill with Jimi that day. Frank eventually bequeathed it to Dweezil, who still maintains it lovingly. It's even for sale--if you've got a million bucks lying around.
